Concept & design An exhibition dedicated to an ideal of beauty that, before captivating the eye, caresses the soul and the body with profound gentleness.

An ethos revealed through the delicacy of an exhibition that speaks the elegant language of Japan: a luminous, intimate space whose surfaces are all clad in warm textile textures. Hideo’s discretion welcomes you from the moment you enter; a noren seems to want to protect the privacy of those entering this space, where the bathtubs designed by Hideo Shimizu are the central features of this silent ‘theatre of well-being’.

The care taken in the installation, in which the bathtubs also interact with elegant supporting elements (objects and furnishings from Japanese culture), takes us back to the monastic care and dedication with which Hideo Shimizu has, for over half a century, shaped bathtubs through his love for his country’s traditional culture; bathtubs that transcend the common notion of design and acquire the symbolic value of an ideal of gentle beauty.

An exhibition conceived for MDW 2026.
